Work → Unknown Guided Tour (2022), AR experience and Inkjet prints.
More than 1000 artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art have been linked to
looting and trafficking. Unknown Guided Tour is an augmented
reality (AR) experience that reimagines the provenance of these unnamed artifacts.
By claiming cryptographic ownership of these objects, Unknown Guided Tour highlights the paradox of
crypto-anonymity (where provenance is recorded, yet authorship is obscured). Just as blockchain transactions
are traceable but detached from their creators, these museum objects exist in a
state of historical limbo—cataloged but disconnected and displaced. The AR experience visualizes the 3D-rendered
objects juxtaposed with metadata of the object-made-token.
This project was in part created whilst at a production residency at VU Photo in Quebec City, QC, in 2022.
